Membership Secretary: Jackie Fisk
Jackie began playing the viola at the age of 10 at school in Ashford, Middlesex. She gave up at the age of 13, having discovered the Rolling Stones. It was only many years later when her own children were offered the chance to learn violin by the Suzuki method that she decided to blow the dust off her old viola and learn to play again.
She joined Salford Symphony Orchestra when it reformed in 1995. Since then she has studied with Denise Beynon and is making progress - gradually. As well as playing with the Orchestra, Jackie is also responsible for seeking commercial sponsorship, recruiting patrons and, most important of all, providing refreshments at rehearsals.
Jackie also enjoys playing with Manchester Camerata Friends Orchestra and the NLMS Music Summer School.
“The highlights for me have been playing in the Magic Flute at the Lowry in June 2000 and performing at the Bridgewater Hall with the Camerata Friends - a marvellous opportunity for a shameless amateur. Music making is such a rewarding hobby. I have made so many new friends and found some talents I didn’t realise I had.”
